OTIV aimed to equip train carriages with a camera and LIDAR that can capture various types of data, enabling them to develop AI models for efficient transportation. The first step in this process was to design a camera module that could be magnetically attached to a train and provide real-time images of the front of the train to the driver via a wireless tablet during parking maneuvers.
To achieve this, our team first worked on optimizing an existing product design provided by the customer, which was not yet ready for production. A detailed analysis was conducted to identify areas for improvement, with a focus on ensuring that the design could be easily milled which is essential for the industrialization of the product. We also made multiple modifications to increase the module’s durability and ability to withstand extreme environmental conditions such as temperature variations and vibrations in which trains operate. Once these optimizations were implemented, we produced a series of prototypes that underwent extensive testing to ensure they met all customer requirements and expectations. After successful testing, the designs were further refined in preparation for larger-scale production. This allowed us to deliver a product that not only functioned efficiently but also had an appealing design and was suitable for mass production. Our approach, known as ‘design for manufacturing’, showcases our ability not only to bring designs into reality but also to optimize them for efficient production.
